Last Saturday was the Redwood Empire Fair Fiddle Contest! Thanks to everyone who came and played, volunteered or just watched, this was one of the best contests we've had yet. Eric Anderson won the Open Division and the Any Instrument, congrats Eric! Kenny Blacklock was 2nd in Open, Martha Boyle was 3rd, Julian McClanahan was 4th and Nicki Carlisle was 5th. I was 2nd in Any Instrument, and Laura's student Morgan Cummings won the Junior division. For full results click here to download the results or go to the Fiddle Contest page. Just got back from Weiser, fun as always, and Laura got 5th place in the Young Adult division! Yay.
We were going to play in the Twin Fiddle division but I broke my wrist and couldn't play, however we got our friend Miya Saito-Beckman to play with Laura, thanks to Miya for doing that.

This Sunday we're playing at the San Francisco Free Folk Festival! 3:30, Pete Seeger Stage(room #107 at the Presidio Middle School), lots of other great bands playing, come for the whole day or just part and the admission is completely free.

Hey everyone, the Lake County Symphony Mothers Day Concert is this Sunday, should be a fun show, we're playing a bunch of movie music... Star Wars, Pirates of the Caribbean, Dances with Wolves, Wizard of Oz, and more. Come on by if you're in the area.

Just left the California State Fiddle contest, another fun year. We won the Twin Fiddle division for the 2nd year in a row(yay!), Laura got 3rd in the Open division(Danita Gardner was 1st & Darren Reitan was 2nd) and I got 3rd also, in the Junior div.(Joe Christienson was 1st, Riley Gallagher was 2nd).

The Bee Eaters concert was last wednesday! It went great, thanks to everyone who came, to Lisa for the building, Laurel and Michael for helping set up, Holly from Ukiah Players Theater for the refreshments and last but very definitely not least to Steve for the sound.
Last weekend was the Cloverdale fiddle contest, that was fun, Darin won the Youth Old Time division and got fourth in the Anything Stringed. And got asked to judge the second day... Scary! But it was actually fun.

We're putting on a concert for The Bee Eaters (Tristan & Tashina Clarridge, Simon Chrisman and Wes Corbett) in Ukiah! Wednesday January 27th at the Saturday Afternoon Club at 7:30, we're playing a few tunes at 7:00.

Almost 2010 now! Last few weeks have been really busy...
Monday we played with the Sing-Along-Singers at a Christmas Party for the Mendocino County Board Department heads, that was fun, and then on the 15th of December Laura's students played at Ukiah Natural Foods, here's a pic:
Last Sunday was the Lake County Orchestra Christmas concert, we had a a little solo medley (we played Go Tell It On The Mountain, Here Comes the Sun and I'll Be Home for Christmas).
Next month is the Cloverdale Fiddle Contest, as always check the Calendar page for everything.

December; otherwise known as orchestra season. Starting this weekeend with the Lake County Symphony Thanksgiving concert.
Quick update on the last couplo weeks:
Two weekends ago was the Death Valley Fiddle & Picking Contest... Neat place, lots of fun, very long drive. Laura judged, and I played in 4 divisions, Novelty (I played cello), which I won, Mandolin, which I also won, the Open Fiddle Division, which I got 2nd place in, and the Twin Fiddle Division with Hughie Smith, which we won! Hughie won the Open, too.
Last weekend we played a contra dance, in Aromas, which was great, really nice people and we got to play Billie Jean at the end...

Almost November... Fall is in full swing here... Death Valley Fiddle Contest in a couple weeks! After that we're playing a contra dance in Aromas(near Monterey) on my birthday, then its the run up to all the holiday orchestra concerts, starting with the Thanksgiving Lake County one.
Oh, and last weekend was the Western Open Fiddle Contest, that was fun as always... Check out their website here for results, etc. from that.

October... Western Open month!
We played three gigs yesterday, the opening of a new Historical Society building in Cloverdale, the a wedding in Guernville and finally the Ukiah Contra Dance. Next weekend the Russian River Fiddlers(some of Laura's students) are playing at the Ukiah Pumkinfest, I will try to get some pictures of that when it happens and post them here.

Last saturday was the Weaverville Open fiddle contest, yay! Fun as always, and Darin won the Junior division, 2nd year in a row, we won the Twin Fiddle division and Laura got 2nd in the Open.
Next weekend we're one of the acts that are playing in a fundraiser for the Ukiah Symphony at Nelson's Family Vineyards, with various other symphony members and their bands, everyone should come to that!

Anderson Marsh! It was last saturday, another great year. Thanks to Don Coffin and the rest of the crew over there for making it happen.
This weekend is the Weaverville Open Fiddle Contest and the Ukiah Symphony concert. We'll only be playing in the sunday symphony concert, unfortunately.
And... We're hoping to get a few recordings/videos up on our myspace page in the next few weeks, so keep checking back there (there's already one video).
